JAKARTA, Jambiflash.com – Online gambling (judol) is becoming increasingly rampant in Indonesia. The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kemenkominfo), has stated that the country must not lose to this crime that damages the economy of its citizens.
One of Kemenkominfo’s efforts to combat online gambling is by sending SMS Blast messages to all mobile telecommunications service users across Indonesia.
Minister of Communication and Information Technology Budi Arie Setiadi said that the outreach in the form of SMS Blast is one of the steps to prevent the public from engaging in online gambling. It is hoped that this can educate the public to avoid online gambling.
“We are conducting outreach campaigns through SMS Blast and various other mechanisms. Tomorrow morning I will meet with RRI to conduct hourly outreach about the dangers of online gambling for the public,” said Minister Budi Arie, as quoted in an official statement.
Minister Budi Arie ensured that his office would take other preventive measures in coordination with various ministries and agencies through the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force. This aims to prevent the spread of online gambling through various platforms.
“We will continue to conduct massive outreach and education across all sectors because the task force is very clear. The Ministry of Religious Affairs is involved, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology is also involved, and we are involving schools,” he said.
Minister Budi Arie conveyed that online gambling always harms its players, so the public needs to be aware of this. The initial wins given at the start of the game are one of the ways online gambling operators attract players.
“Public awareness is increasingly important because online gambling operators are making greater efforts to expand their market by providing easy ways for the public to play. One of these is the ease of making deposits using mobile phone credit,” he said.
Minister Budi Arie emphasized that the government, through the Online Gambling Task Force, will continue to take steps to protect the public and systematically eradicate online gambling. The government is also determined to catch major online gambling operators who are troubling the public.
“The state must not lose; this crime truly damages family economies, social environments, and also fosters criminality. This indeed requires comprehensive steps, and this task force is tasked with orchestrating all ministries and agencies in a unified effort to immediately address these various problems,” he said.
