Taiwanese Tourist Dies While Snorkeling

LOMBOK UTARA, Jambiflash.com – An international tourist from Taiwan was found dead in the waters of Gili Air Hamlet, Gili Indah Village, Pemenang District, North Lombok Regency.

The victim, named Fang Jhih Jie from Taiwan, was found motionless at the bottom of the sea while snorkeling (a recreational activity to enjoy underwater scenery from the surface at shallow depths).

Pemenang Police Chief, Iptu Hadi Suprayitno, said the incident occurred on Tuesday (25/6/2024) at around 10:30 AM WITA. At that time, the victim had borrowed fins and a mask to snorkel in front of Sandi Beach Bungalow, Gili Air Hamlet, Gili Indah Village, Pemenang District.

“Around 12:00 PM WITA, a foreign national who was snorkeling in the area saw the victim lying motionless underwater / at the bottom of the sea,” said the Police Chief on Wednesday (26/6/2024).

The witness shouted and informed other tourists about the incident. The victim was then evacuated to the shore, and the staff at Youpy Bungalow (where the victim was staying) contacted the medical staff at Gili Air Center Clinic.

“The medical staff from Gili Air Center Clinic performed first aid by pressing on the victim’s chest, but the victim did not respond,” he said.

According to the medical examination, the victim was estimated to have already passed away when found.

“The victim was staying at Youpy Bungalow in Gili Air Hamlet, Gili Indah Village, Pemenang District,” he concluded. (nas)
