Jambiflash.com – reports that Israel claimed Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif was killed in a July 13 attack. However, this information is one-sided, as Hamas denied similar claims made by Israel last month.

Deif, commander of Hamas’ Izzuddin Al Qassam Brigades, played a significant role in the Al Aqsa Storm operation, attacking Israel on October 7, 2023. The claim about Deif’s death surfaced a day after the death of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh.

Known for evading Israeli assassination attempts, Deif is one of Israel’s most wanted individuals.

Deif also participated in Hamas’ 11-day conflict with Israel in May 2021, which ended a seven-year hiatus in fighting between Gaza fighters and Israel. The conflict resulted in 242 Gazan and 11 Israeli deaths.

Interestingly, Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, mentioned that 80 of his fighters died during that time. Despite being in Israel’s firing range, Deif avoided bullets, mortar shells, and missiles from Zionist soldiers. This has earned the Khan Yunis-born Deif, who was born Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al Masri in 1965 when Khan Yunis was still under Egyptian occupation, the nickname of having nine lives like a cat.

“Throughout the operation, we tried to kill Mohammad Deif,” said Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Hidai Zilberman to the New York Times at the time.

According to the BBC, another IDF official said there were at least two attempts to kill Deif during the conflict, both of which failed. These failures have added to Israel’s frustration, as they have reportedly attempted at least seven times over 20 years without success.

Israeli media reported that Deif’s birth name is Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al Masri. However, due to frequently moving to avoid Israeli attacks, he is better known as Deif, which means guest in Arabic.
