JAKARTA, Jambiflash.com – Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, head of the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Kabareskrim Polri), stated that prisons would be full if all online gambling players in Indonesia were arrested. This is because the number of online gambling players in Indonesia has reached 2.3 million people.
According to Wahyu, arresting these players wouldn’t solve the online gambling issue.
“Just imagine, if we continue to arrest these 2.3 million perpetrators who openly engage in this, gambling never wins, we arrest them, fill up the prisons, and it won’t stop this,” Wahyu said, quoted on Saturday (22/6/2024).
Wahyu believes that blocking websites and arresting online gambling operators and dealers are far more effective measures than imprisoning players.
“Well, it’s better if we just remove their websites, then they won’t play anymore. That would be more effective,” Wahyu said.
He warned the public not to get involved in online gambling, especially not to expect wealth through it. (nas)
